The Social Health Authority has started disbursing KSh11.1 billion to healthcare providers across the country to settle approved claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund.
In a notice issued by the agency’s Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi, the authority said the payments would be released in batches to ensure an efficient and orderly transfer of funds to contracted healthcare facilities.
Payments to Run Throughout the Week
According to the agency, the disbursement cycle began this week and is expected to continue through Thursday, March 19, by which time all approved claims submitted under the fund should have been settled.
The authority assured healthcare facilities that all successfully processed claims would be paid within the scheduled period.
Supporting Healthcare Services
The funds form part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the healthcare system and maintain the delivery of medical services under the national health insurance programme.
Officials said timely payments to health providers are critical for supporting hospital operations, medical supplies, and staffing, ensuring patients continue to receive care without disruption.
Advisory to Health Facilities
Healthcare facilities were advised to allow time for batch processing and normal inter-bank clearing procedures before raising concerns about missing payments.
The authority further requested providers to wait until the end of the disbursement cycle on March 19 before making inquiries regarding outstanding claims.
“Should any facility not receive payment for their approved claims by the conclusion of this cycle, our dedicated support teams will be readily available from Friday, March 20, 2026, to provide the necessary clarifications and assist with reconciliations,” the notice stated.
The payment rollout is expected to bring relief to healthcare providers that have been awaiting reimbursements under the government-backed insurance programme.
