Drama erupted in Mbeere North during Thursday’s by-election when former Attorney General Justin Muturi was involved in a heated confrontation with a local resident shortly after casting his vote. The incident occurred near Siakago Social Hall and followed a separate episode in which Muturi removed an agent representing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wa Muthende for wearing the party’s yellow colors inside a polling station.

Muturi explained that the agent, identified as Chinga Ward MCA Kiruga Thuku, violated election regulations prohibiting party colors at polling stations. Speaking to local media, he stressed that election law is clear on appropriate attire for agents and observers.

“It is disappointing that those entrusted to uphold the law are the ones breaking it. An MCA from Nyeri, Karuga, came to Siakago dressed in full UDA colors inside a polling centre. This is illegal. Polling stations are not campaign stages, and election day is not a platform for party branding. He was removed in accordance with the law. The law must be respected,” Muturi stated.

He added, “We have told him you cannot enter the polling area in party colors. Even authorized agents or observers must wear neutral attire.”
