Busia County, Kenya – A devastating fire claimed the lives of three people, including two children, at Bulagu village in Budalang’i on Friday night, January 30, 2026.
According to witnesses, the blaze broke out at the home of Patrick Bahati around 1 a.m. A neighbour reported hearing cries for help and rushed to the scene, only to find the fire had already engulfed the house.
Failed Rescue Efforts
Despite desperate attempts to save Bahati and his two children a Grade Seven pupil and a Grade Two pupil the intensity of the flames made rescue impossible. The three were trapped inside as the fire spread rapidly.
Police Confirmation
Bunyala Sub-County OCPD Lawrenias Odinga confirmed the incident, noting that investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
“Investigations into the cause of the fire have since been launched,” Odinga said.
The bodies of the deceased were later taken to the Port Victoria Hospital mortuary.
