Kenya is mourning the passing of Elijah Lagat, a celebrated marathoner and former Chesumei Member of Parliament, who died on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, while receiving treatment at Eldoret Hospital.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris paid tribute to Lagat, describing him as “a distinguished athlete turned devoted leader” who left a profound impact in both sports and public service. She highlighted his contributions to education, youth empowerment, and the establishment of the Kapsabet training camp.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang also hailed Lagat as a national hero whose achievements elevated Kenya’s global reputation in athletics and inspired generations of runners.
