The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has strongly dismissed allegations made by fomer Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed there were threats of violence targeting him ahead of the upcoming Mbeere North by-election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, UDA described Gachagua’s letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja calling for arrests over alleged threats circulating on social media as “a satirical drama script built on falsehoods.”

The party accused Gachagua of attempting to create unnecessary tension and division, linking his outburst to what they termed as a pattern of using “abusive, insulting, and offensive language against leaders who reject his polarizing political rhetoric.”

UDA also refuted Gachagua’s claims that the threats originated from allies of UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire or Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. The party reaffirmed that residents of Mbeere North have vowed to maintain peace throughout the campaign period.

Turning the spotlight on Gachagua, UDA alleged that he had defrauded a local candidate by promising a nomination certificate from a non-existent political outfit known as the DCP Party.

“The people of Mbeere are demanding accountability, not engaging in political opposition. As you plan to visit the constituency, be prepared to refund the money you reportedly took under false pretenses,” the statement read.

The ruling party emphasized that it would not be distracted by what it called Gachagua’s “theatrics,” reaffirming its focus on promoting peace and development through its candidate, Leo Wamuthende.

“The peace-loving people of Mbeere have no interest in harming you or your anatomy,” UDA quipped. “Their attention is on development and transformation under the government’s leadership, not personal vendettas.”

The Mbeere North by-election is among 24 mini-polls scheduled by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for November 27, 2025.
