Iran has come under renewed scrutiny after a video, verified by AFP, surfaced showing dozens of bodies outside a morgue south of Tehran. The footage, filmed at the Kahrizak forensic centre, depicts bodies wrapped in black bags lying on the ground, while people, believed to be relatives, search through them.

The video first circulated online on Saturday and was geolocated the following day, confirming its location near Tehran. Human rights organizations have condemned the images, saying they indicate a deadly crackdown on recent nationwide protests.

Iran Human Rights, based in Norway, stated that the footage points to a high number of deaths associated with ongoing demonstrations. Meanwhile, the group Hengaw reported seeing bloodied bodies both inside and outside the morgue.

Activists have accused Iranian security forces of using live ammunition against protesters during two weeks of unrest. The situation has been compounded by an internet blackout, making it difficult for independent verification and limiting the flow of information from the ground.

The video has intensified international concern over Iran’s handling of dissent, with human rights groups calling for immediate investigation and accountability for the apparent violence against demonstrators.
