Two key witnesses have tendered their testimony in the ongoing case against comedian Eric Omondi, who is accused of causing obstruction by lying on the road and threatening members of the public along Parliament Road on June 4, 2024.
Testimony Before the Court
Appearing before Milimani Principal Magistrate Carolyne Nyanguthii on Thursday, January 22, 2026, a police officer recounted the events of the day. She told the court that while on duty at the Senate Gate, Omondi arrived at noon accompanied by about 20 women and five young men carrying sukuma wiki.
The officer testified that Omondi was holding a stick and a loudspeaker, while the women scattered the sukuma wiki in front of the Senate Gate.
“Alikua ameshika kitu inakaa rungu na hand loudspeaker, alafu alikua anawatishia hao wamama na anawakimbiza na kuwachapa na hio rungu ndo wapige nduru na kuleta vurughu,” the officer told the court.
She added that the chaos prompted her to alert the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Parliament Police Station for reinforcement. Omondi and three women were subsequently arrested and escorted to the station before being handed over to Parliament DCI officers.
Corporal Kigen’s Account
Police Corporal Kigen, stationed at Parliament Police Station, also testified. He said he and his colleagues were informed by the OCS of disturbances at the Senate Gate.
Upon arrival, they found a large crowd and identified Omondi among men and women who had scattered sukuma wiki along the road.
“We arrested Eric Omondi with three men and three women and escorted them to Parliament Police Station, where we handed them over to the DCI officers for investigations,” Kigen told the court.
During cross-examination, Kigen confirmed that he saw Omondi beating women with a stick while shouting, as others carried placards reading: “Mama mboga amechoka, wabunge ni wasaliti.”
He added that the handheld loudspeaker and stick were confiscated and handed over to investigators.
Notice of Demonstration
It also emerged during the hearing that a notice of an intended public procession and demonstration scheduled for June 4, 2024, had been issued and received by police on May 22, 2024.
The hearing is set to continue on February 18, 2026, as the court examines further evidence and testimony in the case.
Conclusion
The testimonies presented highlight the chaotic scenes along Parliament Road during the June 2024 protest led by Eric Omondi. With the trial ongoing, the court will determine whether Omondi’s actions amounted to obstruction and unlawful conduct, or whether they fell within the scope of a notified public demonstration.
