The world’s biggest YouTuber, MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), has voiced growing concern over the rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to disrupt the livelihoods of millions of digital creators.
Taking to social media, MrBeast questioned what the future holds “when AI videos are just as good as normal videos,” referring to the new wave of AI-powered video generators capable of producing realistic, full-length videos from simple text prompts.
His remarks come days after OpenAI’s “Sora” — a groundbreaking text-to-video model — sparked debate over the ethical and creative implications of AI-generated content, including issues around copyright reproduction and job displacement in creative industries.
A Growing Concern for Creators
MrBeast’s comments highlight widespread anxiety within the content creation, film, and gaming sectors, where AI is increasingly used for scriptwriting, animation, and production — but also feared for its potential to replace human creativity.
Despite these concerns, experts suggest that top creators like MrBeast are unlikely to be replaced by AI soon. “His appeal lies in real, high-stakes experiences — things people wouldn’t watch if they weren’t genuine,” explains Professor Lars Erik Holmquist, an expert in design and innovation at Nottingham Trent University.
The Double-Edged Sword of AI
While AI tools such as Google’s Veo and YouTube’s inbuilt AI features can assist creators with subtitles, visuals, and idea generation, they also raise questions about data ethics and fair use.
Earlier this year, MrBeast faced backlash after launching an AI thumbnail generator, which critics said relied on copyrighted training data. He later removed the feature and instead directed users to hire human designers.
The Future of Creative Work
As AI continues to evolve, many believe the creators who thrive will be those who adapt and integrate AI into their workflows — using it to enhance, not replace, human creativity.
Still, MrBeast’s warning underscores a larger tension in the creator economy: whether AI will become a powerful tool for innovation or a threat to authentic creativity.
