Four police officers stationed at Maai Mahiu Police Station in Nakuru County have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of their colleague, Corporal Hassan Lolkidid, during a patrol operation in the Msikiti area.

According to a police report, the officers Jim Murithi, Emmanuel Sang, Antony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter were taken into custody at Naivasha Police Station after investigations linked them to both the shooting and an alleged cover-up surrounding their colleague’s death.

Patrol Turns Tragic

The incident occurred on October 29, 2025, when a team of officers, including Corporal Lolkidid, the four suspects, and fellow officers Richard Muriithi and Wycliffe Okello, were responding to a tip-off about a suspicious lorry offloading tyres and hardware materials in the Msikiti area, approximately one kilometre west of the Maai Mahiu Police Station.

Upon arrival, the officers found about ten men unloading the goods. However, the suspects fled in different directions as the police moved in to question them. During the ensuing chase, gunfire erupted, and Corporal Lolkidid was later discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

Conflicting Accounts and Ballistic Tests

Following the shooting, members of the patrol team denied firing their weapons, claiming that the origin of the gunfire was unclear. Investigators, however, seized five firearms including Jericho pistols and Ceska handguns from the officers for ballistic analysis to determine whose weapon discharged the fatal bullet.

The lorry involved was impounded and towed to Maai Mahiu Police Station for further examination, while the body of the deceased officer was taken to Umme Funeral Home pending a postmortem.

Arrests and Legal Action

Preliminary findings later implicated the four officers in an attempt to conceal details of the shooting, prompting their arrest. The officers are expected to be arraigned on October 31, 2025.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, which has sparked fresh scrutiny of police accountability and operational conduct during field operations.
