Eldoret, Kenya – Detectives in Eldoret have arrested an uncle and aunt accused of fatally assaulting their 19-year-old nephew, Kevin Kipkorir Meli, in a shocking incident that unfolded in Kiplombe Location, Turbo sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.
According to police reports, Philip Kosgei and Tecla Chepchirchir allegedly tied the young man to an avocado tree before subjecting him to a brutal beating with canes. The assault left Kevin unconscious, and he later succumbed to his injuries.
Circumstances of the Incident
The suspects reportedly accused Kevin of stealing and selling dry maize from his uncle’s home. On the day of the attack, officers at Baharini Police Station received a distress call about a person beaten to death at Kaplelach village.
Upon arrival, police discovered Kevin’s lifeless body beneath an avocado tree at his uncle’s homestead. His body bore multiple injuries to the head, back, legs, and hands, with a blood clot visible in his nose.

- A manila rope used to tie the victim to the tree.
- Broken sticks believed to have been used in the assault.
The body was transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue for postmortem examination.
