The High Court in Eldoret has sentenced Vincent Ngososei to 15 years in prison for the manslaughter of former marathon athlete Samson Kandie. The ruling was delivered by Justice Nyakundi, with Ngososei having pleaded guilty to a lesser charge under a plea agreement with the State.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Ngososei admitted that he acted under instructions from one of his co-accused, Kandie’s wife, Rose Chepkemboi Rotich, to discipline the athlete over alleged infidelity.

Prosecutors, led by Sidi Kirenge, presented evidence placing Ngososei at Kandie’s residence between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 3, 2024. Kandie was subsequently found severely assaulted and later died from his injuries.

In a related development, the second suspect, Jamleck Morogit, also entered a plea agreement, resulting in a conviction for conspiracy to murder and a six-year prison sentence. Under these agreements, both Ngososei and Morogit are expected to testify against Rotich in the ongoing murder trial.

The case continues to draw attention due to its connection to the high-profile athlete and the circumstances surrounding his death.
