Wamuchomba Gives Ruto Three-Day Ultimatum Over Wainaina, Duale Hate Speech Claims

NAIROBI, KENYA — Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has issued President William Ruto with a three day ultimatum, demanding action against nominated MP Joseph Wainaina and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over alleged inflammatory remarks.

Wamuchomba warned on Monday that a section of leaders from the Mt Kenya region could withdraw their support for President Ruto if the two leaders are not arrested.

She accused the government of applying the law selectively, arguing that leaders allied with the administration should face the same scrutiny as other individuals accused of making remarks capable of heightening ethnic tensions.

“The bubble is growing bigger every day,” Wamuchomba said, warning that failure to address the issue could have serious consequences for the country.

She added that some of those who have supported Ruto could walk away “when he really needs us” if her demand is not addressed within three days.

Wamuchomba Defends Her Support for Ruto

The Githunguri MP also defended her previous support for President Ruto, saying she initially believed her role was to support, advise and pray for the President.

However, she said her position had become increasingly difficult as she accused sections of the administration of failing to adequately address concerns raised by citizens.

Wamuchomba's latest comments add to growing political tensions within the President's support base as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wainaina Denies Ethnic Incitement Claims

The controversy involving nominated MP Joseph Wainaina follows the circulation of a video in which remarks attributed to him were interpreted as telling members of the Kikuyu community who do not support Ruto's re-election to leave Uasin Gishu County.

Wainaina has denied encouraging ethnic hostility, saying his comments were taken out of context.

He has argued that he lives in Uasin Gishu with his family and would have no reason to advocate for the removal of the Kikuyu community. He also stressed that voters have the right to support the candidate of their choice.

The remarks have nevertheless triggered calls for investigations. Jubilee Party has urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to examine the matter and take appropriate action if laws were breached.

Duale Defends Remarks

Health CS Aden Duale has also faced criticism over remarks made in July concerning historical relations between Somali and Kikuyu communities.

Duale has maintained that he was taken out of context and said a phrase he used was a Somali proverb referring to the difficulty of changing entrenched habits or relinquishing long-held advantages.

He has denied that the expression was intended to demean or attack any community.

The controversy has nevertheless drawn scrutiny from the NCIC, with Wamuchomba among those demanding accountability.

Political Pressure Builds

Wamuchomba's ultimatum comes amid heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections and renewed debate over ethnic rhetoric in Kenyan politics.

The MP has warned that failure to address inflammatory statements could deepen tensions and damage the political relationship between President Ruto and some leaders from the Mt Kenya region.

She has not publicly identified all the leaders who would withdraw their support, but said a section of those who have backed the President could reconsider their position if no action is taken.

The coming days will therefore be closely watched as pressure mounts on the government and relevant state agencies to respond to the allegations involving Wainaina and Duale.
