A Bondo-based blogger, Boniface Ohindo, widely known as “Super B,” has been arrested over allegations of defaming Yimbo East Ward MCA Francis Otiato through social media posts.
According to authorities, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detained Ohindo at his home after the MCA filed a complaint accusing him of spreading misinformation and false claims about local development projects in the ward.
Confirming the arrest, Bondo DCIO Reuben Onchoka said the blogger is expected to appear in court on Monday to face charges related to cyber harassment and misuse of digital communication platforms.
The incident has triggered mixed reactions among Yimbo East residents. A group led by Erick Oyaro visited Ohindo at the Bondo Police Station, urging MCA Otiato to seek an out-of-court resolution, noting that the blogger once served as his personal assistant.
Others, including Margaret Akinyi, criticized the MCA’s decision to press charges, saying it could discourage citizens from holding leaders accountable. She appealed for reconciliation to maintain unity between the community and local leadership.
In a statement, MCA Otiato said he had previously warned Ohindo to stop posting defamatory content but the blogger ignored his requests, forcing him to take legal action.
Otiato, however, hinted that he might withdraw the case if Ohindo issues a public apology and shows remorse. If not, he warned, the blogger would face both criminal prosecution and a civil defamation suit for damages.
