The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) has announced the dismissal of head coach Brama Traoré and his technical team after the national team’s disappointing performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the FBF described the team’s showing as falling “far short of the objectives set for the national team.” The Stallions were eliminated in the round of 16 following a 3-0 defeat to defending champions Ivory Coast.

“This poor performance has caused deep disappointment among supporters, stakeholders in national football, and governing bodies,” the federation said. “The objective before the start of the 2025 AFCON was to reach at least the semi-finals, building on the positive momentum from previous editions.”

Burkina Faso had also exited in the round of 16 during the previous tournament but reached the semi-finals in 2021, where they were defeated by eventual champions Senegal.

The FBF thanked Traoré and his assistants for their service since 2024 and stated that steps would be taken immediately to initiate a new selection process for the national team’s technical staff.

With Burkina Faso failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, attention now shifts to the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted jointly by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
