Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that two members of the Australian Women’s World Cup team were inappropriately touched by a member of the public while walking to a café in Indore, India. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday, a rest day following Australia’s six-wicket victory over England.

In a statement, CA said:

“We can confirm two members of the Australian women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to the police, who are handling the matter.”

According to reports from India, an arrest has since been made, and security protocols in the area have been reviewed. The affected players have been offered full support and are continuing to participate in the tournament.

Police Confirm Arrest

Rajesh Dandotiya, Deputy Police Commissioner in Indore, told BBC News Hindi that the accused followed the players for some distance, passed lewd remarks, and later made physical contact while on his motorcycle.

“The accused was identified through CCTV footage and arrested,” Dandotiya confirmed.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been approached for comment on the incident.

Team Focuses on Performance Amid Incident

News of the arrest broke as Australia took to the field for their final group-stage match, with their semi-final spot already secured. The team, which has spent a large portion of the tournament in Indore, recorded a dominant seven-wicket win over South Africa on Saturday at Holkar Stadium.

Spinner Alana King delivered a historic performance, taking seven wickets for 18 runs—the best bowling figures in Women’s Cricket World Cup history, surpassing Jacqueline Lord’s 6 for 10 for New Zealand against India in 1982.

Despite the distressing off-field incident, the Australian side remains focused as they prepare for the knockout stages of the tournament.
