Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two men suspected of being part of a criminal gang responsible for a spate of robberies targeting motorists along the Eldoret–Malaba highway.

The suspects, identified as William Simiyu and Byron Werunga, were apprehended following a joint intelligence-led operation by officers from Matete and Webuye Police Stations, after several days of covert surveillance.

According to the DCI, the two are believed to be behind a series of late-night ambushes that have left travellers shaken and resulted in the theft of valuable property.

“Upon interrogation, the pair led detectives to their hideouts along River Nzoia and Nabuyola Village, where a cache of stolen goods was recovered,” the DCI reported.

Among the items recovered were three 6kg gas cylinders, assorted electronics, and vehicle batteries, all believed to have been stolen from motorists attacked along the busy highway.

The suspects are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment, as investigations continue into the wider criminal network believed to be operating in the area.
