The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into the disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, whose whereabouts remain unknown since Saturday.

Mysterious Disappearance

According to a statement from the DCI, a missing person report was filed by Tuju’s family at Karen Police Station on Sunday, March 22.

Family members indicated that Tuju went missing alongside his driver while en route to a scheduled radio interview. His vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, with its hazard lights still on.

Authorities said a nearby security guard alerted police, prompting a rapid response from officers.

Investigations Underway

The DCI confirmed that detectives have commenced investigations into the incident and are appealing for cooperation from all involved parties.

“We urge full cooperation from all parties, including unrestricted access to relevant locations and prompt provision of information, for a swift and thorough resolution,” the agency said in a statement.

Investigators also noted that they were denied access to Tuju’s residence on Mwitu Drive in Karen by family members on Sunday, a development that could complicate early stages of the inquiry.

Public Appeal for Information

Detectives are now calling on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in tracing Tuju and his driver.

Authorities are particularly interested in:

  • Sightings of Tuju or his vehicle
  • Suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane or greater Karen area
  • Any movements before, during, or after March 21, 2026

Information can be shared confidentially through DCI hotlines.

Ongoing Legal Disputes

At the time of his disappearance, Tuju was embroiled in a high-profile legal dispute involving Dari Business Park in Karen.

The case centres on an alleged failure to repay a Ksh.1.9 billion loan from the East African Development Bank (EADB), originally borrowed in 2015.

The contested properties include:

  • Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary (LR No. 11320/3, Tree Lane, Karen)
  • Tamarind Karen and Dari Business Park (LR No. 1055/165, Ngong Road, Karen)

Prior Tensions With Authorities

Just days before his disappearance, on March 19, Tuju had written to Inspector General Douglas Kanja, protesting what he described as an unlawful police presence at Dari Business Park.

In his letter, he alleged that more than 100 police officers raided the premises on March 13 without a court order and had remained stationed there for nearly a week, disrupting business operations.

Unfolding Situation

The circumstances surrounding Tuju’s disappearance remain unclear, with investigators working to establish a timeline and possible motives.

The case has drawn significant public attention, given Tuju’s political profile and ongoing legal battles, raising broader concerns over security and due process.

Authorities say updates will be provided as investigations progress.
