The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, conducted simultaneous raids on the offices and residences of Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and several senior county officials as part of investigations into a multimillion-shilling corruption scandal.

According to the EACC, the operation is linked to an alleged irregular procurement and award of a Ksh382 million contract for the construction of the Nyamira County Government offices. The contract, which was awarded to Spentech Engineering Limited, is suspected to have involved inflated payments far exceeding the actual value of work done.

Preliminary assessments by the anti-graft agency revealed massive loss of public funds and poor value for money, raising serious questions about the integrity of the project’s implementation.

In a separate inquiry, the EACC is also probing allegations that Governor Nyaribo irregularly authorised Ksh18 million in payments to himself including Ksh5 million in ex gratia benefits and Ksh13 million as a house allowance reimbursement.

The coordinated search operations took place across Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi counties, targeting offices, private residences, and other premises believed to hold relevant evidence. Investigators sought to seize documents, electronic data, and financial records connected to the ongoing probe.

Other senior officials listed as persons of interest in the investigation include:

  • Lameck Machuki Nyariki, Director of Housing and Physical Planning
  • Peris Mose, Director of Roads (formerly Head of Procurement)
  • Asberth Maobe, Chief Officer, Finance and Accounting Services
  • Josphat Oruru, Chief Officer, Roads, Transport & Public Works

The EACC noted that the raids are part of a broader effort to secure evidence ahead of possible arrests and prosecutions, affirming its commitment to holding public officials accountable for misuse of taxpayer funds.
