An Eldoret court on Monday released madrasa teacher Abdullahi Khalif on bond, despite facing charges of defiling a 13-year-old girl. Senior Principal Magistrate Cheronoh Kesse set a bond of Ksh. 300,000, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh. 150,000, after Khalif pleaded not guilty.

Khalif faces charges of defilement contrary to Section 8(1) read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006. The alleged offences are said to have occurred on multiple dates between October 20 and November 30, 2025, at Kambi Mwangi area in Turbo sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. He is also accused of committing an indecent act by touching the minor’s private parts.

The prosecution had opposed his release on bail, arguing that Khalif was a flight risk since his residence was reportedly unknown. It was also noted that members of the community were agitated over his alleged involvement in the assault, particularly as the victim is a minor with special needs.

In response, Khalif’s lawyer, Richard Warigi, refuted claims of him being a flight risk, emphasizing that his client’s residence is known to the public. Warigi further stressed Khalif’s constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty and assured the court that he would attend all required hearings.

Magistrate Kesse ruled that the case be mentioned again on January 29, 2026, for further directions.

This case continues to draw public attention, highlighting ongoing concerns about child protection and the administration of justice in sensitive sexual offences.
