Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed has urged Kenyans to redirect their passion for European football towards supporting local competitions.
Speaking ahead of the new season, Hussein emphasized that the growth of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), National Super League (NSL), Women’s Premier League, and youth tournaments depends on stronger fan engagement and investment.
“We must build our own league. The same passion we have for foreign football should be redirected to our clubs and players. That’s the only way to grow the game locally,” he noted.
The FKF president praised ongoing government efforts to enhance sports infrastructure, citing the construction of over 30 new stadiums nationwide. He also acknowledged private sector involvement, including Azam TV’s continued broadcast partnership and collaborations with more than 50 corporate partners through the Ministry of Sports.
Hussein described this moment as a “turning point for Kenyan football,” stressing that improved facilities, media coverage, and partnerships will help identify and nurture talent from grassroots to the national stage.
He called on fans, corporates, and the media to rally behind the leagues, highlighting the role of community support in elevating Kenyan football to international standards.
As the season begins, attention now turns to whether these investments and renewed calls for support will translate into stronger performances on the pitch and a deeper sense of national pride.
