The Machakos County Assembly is set to resume deliberations today on a motion seeking the removal of Speaker Ann Kiusya, following a recent High Court ruling that lifted an earlier suspension on the process.

The motion, initially stalled in March after Kiusya challenged her ouster bid, has now been reintroduced with at least 33 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) backing it. Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka, who sponsored the motion, accused the Speaker of violating legal procedures by presiding over debates concerning her own removal instead of stepping aside.

According to Nzioka, the motion has been forwarded to the House Business Committee and will undergo voting before returning to the Assembly floor for debate. The push is reportedly driven by Wiper Party–aligned MCAs, though some members have dismissed it as political theatrics.

Should Speaker Kiusya vacate office, Deputy Speaker Stephen Nzue Mwanthi is expected to assume leadership of the Assembly. Attempts to reach Kiusya for comment were unsuccessful.
