Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and 2027 presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Raila Odinga, where he presented a special gift to Mama Ida Odinga in honour of the former Prime Minister’s memory.
In a message shared on his official X account on Monday, October 27, 2025, Matiang’i said he led a delegation of leaders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties to visit Mama Ida at her Nairobi home, following the passing of Raila Odinga.
“Today I led a delegation of Gusii leaders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties to call on Mama Ida Odinga and offer our heartfelt condolences to the family following the loss of Baba Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” Matiang’i wrote.
During the visit, the former CS reflected on Raila’s decades-long dedication to Kenya’s democratic struggle and his enduring impact on national unity.
“We reflected on Baba’s selfless struggle for a better country,” Matiang’i said.
As a gesture of respect and remembrance, Matiang’i presented Mama Ida with a portrait capturing a memorable moment he shared with Raila, symbolizing the friendship and mutual respect the two leaders had over the years.
“I also took the opportunity to present Mama Ida with a portrait capturing a beautiful memory I shared with Baba a testament to the warmth, accommodative and unifying spirit that defined his philosophy of leadership,” he added.
