Gospel singer Rozina Mwakideu has spoken publicly for the first time about her short-lived marriage to pastor and motivational speaker Robert Burale, describing it as the “darkest period” of her life.
Speaking candidly in a conversation with her brother, media personality Alex Mwakideu, during an interview aired on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Rozina shared that her marriage to Burale lasted just one year and a few days and that the union did not produce any children — something she now considers a blessing.
“For clarification, many people don’t know that Robert and I did not have a child. To me, that was a blessing — we were blessed not to have a child in that one-year and a few days marriage,” she said.
“I Had to Leave to Save Myself”
Rozina revealed that she was the one who initiated the divorce, noting that she had attempted to leave the marriage twice before finally walking away on her third attempt.
“I was the one who left. It was my third attempt to leave that marriage. I tried to make it work, but I felt I was losing myself. It was a matter of life and death,” she recalled.
The gospel artist emphasized that there is no possibility of reconciliation between her and Burale, saying the experience pushed her to the edge emotionally and spiritually.
“My Biggest Mistake in Life”
Reflecting on her journey, Rozina described her marriage to Burale — which began in August 2012, a year after they met — as her biggest life regret despite her healing and personal growth since then.
“My mother had warned me and said she saw darkness in that marriage. Looking back, I can say the biggest mistake of my life was marrying Robert Burale. The darkest period of my life was when I was with him,” she admitted.
Now aged 50, Rozina said she has fully healed and moved on, using her experience as a lesson in self-awareness, strength, and emotional survival.
Her openness adds a new layer to the ongoing public interest surrounding Burale, a well-known pastor and motivational speaker, offering rare insight into the private struggles behind the public figures’ once high-profile marriage.
