Kisii Governor Simba Arati has issued a stern warning to residents against falling prey to fraudsters posing as county officials and soliciting bribes in exchange for jobs.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Arati revealed that the Kisii County Public Service Board recently announced 300 job vacancies, including 200 positions for medical staff and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers. He cautioned that a group of conmen has been exploiting job seekers by demanding money under the guise of facilitating their recruitment.
“These acts are wrong and unacceptable,” the governor stated. “I have directed members of the County Public Service Board, chaired by Haroun Maosa, not to solicit bribes from applicants. Anyone found guilty will be dismissed immediately.”
Arati further disclosed that the imposters were using his name to extort money, emphasizing his firm stand against corruption.
“I abhor graft,” he said, urging residents to report any fraudulent activity instead of giving in to bribery schemes.
The governor instructed the recruitment board to ensure equitable distribution of the advertised positions across all 45 wards, promising to personally oversee the process to guarantee fairness and transparency.
Disturbing Bribery Incidents
Governor Arati recounted a shocking case where a job applicant for a senior position was duped into paying Ksh 5 million, along with five sacks of millet, a goat, and a hen, allegedly as a gift to the governor.
“Some parents have sold land and cows to educate their children. How dare anyone demand Ksh 200,000 or Ksh 300,000 as a bribe to secure employment?” he lamented.
On ECDE recruitment, Arati assured that teachers already serving in the sector would be given first priority, acknowledging their dedication and patience. He also announced plans to construct two new ECDE classrooms, each equipped with large TV screens to enhance learning.
Call for Voter Registration
The governor also expressed concern over low voter registration in Kisii County. He appealed to young people who have received their national ID cards to register as voters and participate actively in the next General Election.
“Your vote is your voice. Let’s take part in shaping our future,” he urged.
