The High Court in Eldoret has scheduled the murder trial of Sylivia Bosibori, a primary school teacher accused of allegedly poisoning her nine-year-old son, for April 21, 2026.

Justice Emily Ominde issued the direction after prosecutors informed the court that a plea bargain had failed to resolve the case. The matter will now be heard by a new judge, as Justice Ominde is set to assume her new station in Bungoma by April 1, 2026.

The State has lined up nine key witnesses to testify against Bosibori during the trial. She is currently out on cash bail of KSh 30,000.

According to court documents, the incident occurred between May 17 and May 20, 2022, in Joyland area, Kapsaos location, Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County. The prosecution alleges that Bosibori poisoned her only child over domestic issues and continued with her school and household duties while the boy lay dead in his bedroom.

Neighbors reportedly became suspicious after three days due to a foul smell emanating from the house. Upon peering through a window, they discovered the boy’s lifeless body and alerted the Kamukunji police, who confirmed the death and moved the body to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue pending autopsy.

The case drew nationwide attention due to the shocking circumstances surrounding the alleged crime, including claims that the teacher locked the house from the outside and went to school while her son was deceased inside.

The trial is set to commence before the incoming judge on April 21, 2026, with the prosecution seeking to present evidence from all key witnesses to determine the validity of the murder charge.
