The Jubilee Party has officially endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Election a significant move that marks the party’s renewed effort to reestablish its influence in Kenya’s political arena.
The announcement was made on Thursday, October 30, 2025, by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the party headquarters. The meeting was chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who remains the party leader.
“We have resolved that Dr. Matiang’i will represent Jubilee within the United Opposition. He has formally submitted his application to be our presidential candidate, and the NEC has unanimously approved it. From today, he officially carries the Jubilee flag as our presidential candidate,” Kioni stated.
Kioni further noted that Matiang’i will serve as the party’s representative and key voice within the broader opposition coalition, highlighting his growing leadership role amid Kenyatta’s reduced public engagements. “He will not only deputize our party leader but also act as the face of Jubilee moving forward,” Kioni added.
The endorsement signals Jubilee’s comeback strategy after a period of political dormancy following the 2022 elections. It also reinforces the party’s influence within the United Opposition coalition, which aims to unite opposition forces ahead of the 2027 polls.
Dr. Matiang’i, widely recognized for his disciplined and results-driven leadership, previously held key portfolios in Education, ICT, and Interior. His tenure under former President Kenyatta earned him a reputation as one of the country’s most effective technocrats.
In May 2025, during a homecoming rally at Gusii Stadium, Matiang’i formally announced his intention to run for president, pledging to champion unity, service, and integrity in leadership.
“For ten years, I served this country diligently. My record speaks for itself I am a committed worker, and if given the opportunity, I will continue serving Kenyans with dedication,” he affirmed.
Jubilee’s endorsement of Matiang’i not only sets the stage for a competitive 2027 race but also underscores the party’s ambition to reclaim its place at the center of Kenya’s political discourse.
