Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has delivered a strong message to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), urging the electoral body to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election in 2027.
Speaking during the Wiper National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Friday, October 10, 2025, Kalonzo warned that the opposition would not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice, declaring that the next general election “will not be stealable.”
“The IEBC must choose whether to be on the right side of history and deliver justice, or to go down as a rotten institution,” Kalonzo stated, emphasizing that accountability and transparency will be non-negotiable in 2027.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and heightened scrutiny of the IEBC’s preparedness ahead of the next general election.
Reflections on Recent Political Shifts
Kalonzo also weighed in on recent events surrounding the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying the episode exposed internal fractures within the ruling administration while uniting the opposition.
“When there was a motion to impeach Gachagua, someone said they should start with President Ruto. The government has since realised the consequences of its own actions. Those actions have brought about a new dawn,” he said.
With a touch of irony, Kalonzo thanked President Ruto for the impeachment, noting that it had inadvertently strengthened the opposition’s cohesion and resolve.
“I thank Ruto for impeaching Gachagua because now we are together in opposition, and we are going to liberate this country — and even Ruto himself,” he added.
He commended Rigathi Gachagua for emerging as a more prominent national figure following his ouster, saying he had gained recognition and influence that surpassed his time as deputy president.
Kalonzo also celebrated the dismissal of former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, calling him “a brilliant mind” who has since joined the opposition, further bolstering their leadership ranks.
“It is good that Ruto fired Muturi. He is a brilliant mind, and now he is on our side. Together, we are going to lead this revolution,” Kalonzo declared.
A Call for Justice and Unity
Kalonzo’s address underscored the opposition’s growing confidence and organizational strength ahead of the 2027 elections. His firm warning to the IEBC reflects rising tensions over electoral credibility and signals a renewed push by the opposition to position itself as a unified force capable of challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration.
