Kenya Kwanza leaders, led by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruyot, launched a spirited defence of President William Ruto’s administration on Sunday, September 29, 2025, while taking sharp aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his opposition allies.
Speaking during a political rally in Kericho County, the leaders accused Gachagua and the opposition of spreading falsehoods and attempting to derail the government’s development agenda. They insisted that President Ruto had lived up to his campaign promises and was steadily steering Kenya towards economic transformation.
Housing Programme Praised Internationally
Belgut MP Nelson Koech highlighted the Affordable Housing Programme as one of Ruto’s signature achievements. He revealed that during Ruto’s recent visit to the United States, world leaders praised Kenya for providing low-income earners with dignified housing solutions.
“I was with the president in America, and the first thing that was addressed by presidents from other countries was to congratulate him for according low-income earning Kenyans a decent way of living through affordable housing,” Koech said.
Cost of Living Interventions
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Alex Wachira pointed to government interventions such as farm input subsidies, reduced fuel prices, and a stronger shilling as measures that have eased the cost of living for ordinary Kenyans. He argued that these reforms have shielded citizens from global economic shocks.
Taking on Gachagua and the Opposition
The leaders also dismissed Gachagua’s recent claims that opposition figures had been invited to join the government but declined. Gachagua, who was impeached last year and has since aligned himself with the United Opposition movement, has vowed to front a joint opposition candidate to challenge Ruto in 2027.
Kenya Kwanza leaders rubbished the remarks as empty rhetoric, saying the opposition lacks clear policy alternatives. They reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Ruto, insisting his administration remains committed to transforming the economy and uplifting millions of Kenyans.
