Gloucester County, New Jersey – A Kenyan-born truck driver living in Texas has been sentenced to prison after admitting to deliberately ramming another tractor-trailer in a deadly road-rage incident on the New Jersey Turnpike last year.

Joseph Nyandwaro, 41, received a six-year prison term on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Gloucester County Superior Court after pleading guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide.

The Fatal Crash

The crash occurred on June 22, 2025, in Woolwich Township on the northbound Turnpike. Prosecutors said Nyandwaro struck a truck driven by Osman Aden, 40, of Minnesota, sending it into a concrete barrier. Aden was killed instantly.

Investigators revealed that Nyandwaro repeatedly blocked Aden’s truck before deliberately ramming it. A video recorded from inside Nyandwaro’s vehicle showed the collision and captured him laughing as he drove away.

Authorities said Nyandwaro did not stop to check on the victim and later attempted to conceal damage to his truck.

Arrest and Prosecution

With assistance from Nyandwaro’s trucking company, New Jersey State Police tracked down the vehicle and confirmed his involvement. Prosecutors described the case as second-degree homicide, noting the deliberate nature of the act.

Nyandwaro also admitted to leaving the scene of the crash. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors recommended a six-year sentence with a requirement that he serve at least 85% of the term before becoming eligible for parole.

Conclusion

The sentencing brings closure to a case that shocked the trucking industry and highlighted the dangers of road rage on America’s highways. For Aden’s family, the ruling marks accountability, though the loss remains immeasurable.
