The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has issued a public advisory urging Kenyans to promptly report any unusual or unexpected reactions after taking medication, following the documentation of 432 suspected adverse drug reaction (SADR) cases.
In an update shared on X on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the regulatory authority revealed that the majority of the reported cases involved adults aged between 18 and 64 years.
“PPB received 432 Suspected Adverse Drug Reaction reports from 1 July to 30 September 2025, of which 98.61% (426) were new cases. Most involved adults aged 18–64 years (72.3%),” the board stated.
The PPB advised the public to immediately report symptoms such as itching, rashes, nausea, or any other unusual effects experienced after taking medication.
This latest alert comes months after the board cautioned Kenyans against the misuse of antibiotics, particularly for treating viral infections such as the common cold and flu.
In an advisory issued on August 28, 2025, the PPB stressed that antibiotics are ineffective against viruses and should only be used when prescribed for confirmed bacterial infections. The board reiterated that flu and cold symptoms are best managed through rest, adequate hydration, nutritious meals, and guidance from healthcare professionals.
“Got a cold or flu? No antibiotics needed,” PPB reminded the public. “Antibiotics don’t work against viruses. Let’s use them responsibly.
