Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. In a statement, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described Hamisi’s passing as a profound loss to both Parliament and the nation, noting the late MP’s humility and steadfast commitment to public service.

Hamisi was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) following the 2022 General Election. During his tenure, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities. Speaker Wetang’ula lauded Hamisi for leaving a significant mark both within parliamentary proceedings and in the broader national community.

“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community,” Wetang’ula stated.

To ensure a befitting farewell, Wetang’ula appointed a team of MPs, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Owen Baya, to work closely with Hamisi’s family in coordinating the send-off for the late legislator.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi attended Mombasa Baptist High School from 1984 to 1989 before pursuing higher education across multiple institutions. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from the United States International University (USIU) in 2000, a Master of International Business Administration in 2002, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006.

Before entering Parliament, Hamisi accumulated extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. He held prominent positions including Director of the Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007–2008), Director at the Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012), and Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012). He also contributed to academia as a Council Member at the University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Moi University (2021–2022).
