Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has announced the death of Salmon Orimba, the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service, County Administration, and Participatory Development.
Governor Nyong’o’s Tribute
In a press statement issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, Governor Nyong’o expressed deep sorrow, describing Orimba as a trusted colleague, dependable partner in service, and close friend.
“With gross pain and remorse, I share the painful news of the passing of Hon. Salmon Orimba,” Nyong’o said.
He noted that Orimba had served in his administration since his first term, praising his humility, discipline, and commitment to strengthening public institutions.
A Career of Service
Over the years, Orimba held several key portfolios, including:
- Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change
- Infrastructure, Energy and Public Works
- Public Service and County Administration
Nyong’o highlighted Orimba’s calm and thoughtful counsel during critical decision-making moments, emphasizing his dedication to improving service delivery for ordinary citizens.
“He believed deeply in building strong institutions and in ensuring that government works for ordinary citizens. He was steady when challenges arose and generous in giving credit to others,” the governor stated.

The governor, alongside his spouse Dorothy Nyong’o, extended condolences to Orimba’s family, thanking them for allowing him to serve the public.
Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda also mourned Orimba, describing him as a committed public servant who battled illness courageously and whose leadership and humility will be remembered for years to come.
“Orimba was a dedicated public servant whose commitment to strengthening county administration and promoting participatory development touched many lives across our county,” Ojienda said.
