Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) interim deputy party leader, Cleophas Malalah, has dismissed claims by Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly collaborating with President William Ruto.

Speaking in Malava while rallying support for DCP’s candidate, Edgar Busieka, in the upcoming by-elections, Malalah accused Kioni of advancing “state-sponsored diversionary tactics” meant to fracture the United Opposition.

“If you are in the opposition and you cannot say a ‘Wantam’ slogan, then you are a mole,” Malalah asserted, warning that Kioni’s remarks were designed to weaken the coalition’s united front.

Malalah further argued that Gachagua could not reunite with Ruto, dismissing speculation of political reconciliation as “falsehoods aimed at confusing the public.” He also took a swipe at Kioni, labeling him a mole within the opposition for allegedly failing to openly criticize the government.

The remarks follow Kioni’s recent radio interview where he alleged that Gachagua had met leaders in Narok County to outline a political strategy involving a potential pact with President Ruto. According to Kioni, Gachagua claimed to be consolidating seven million votes from the Mt. Kenya region, alongside support from Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i, with the aim of strengthening his bargaining power.

Kioni emphasized that Jubilee seeks to align with parties genuinely committed to unseating Ruto, warning against political dealings driven by personal or ethnic bargaining.

The exchange underscores simmering tensions within the opposition, with speculation of internal rifts gaining momentum despite public assurances of unity.
