A man is in custody after allegedly driving a van into security gates outside the White House in Washington, DC, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, when the vehicle struck a gate north of the presidential residence, according to a statement from the Secret Service.
No injuries have been reported, and the suspect’s identity has not been released. Officers from the Secret Service Uniformed Division immediately arrested the driver, who is now being interviewed. Criminal charges are pending.
A bomb squad was dispatched to inspect the vehicle, which was later deemed safe. Several streets near the White House have been closed, and the area remains cordoned off as investigations continue.
The incident comes amid heightened security in Washington, DC, due to ongoing military tensions involving the United States and Israel in their conflict with Iran.
Wednesday’s crash is the latest in a series of similar security incidents at the White House in recent years, despite tightened measures to control access to surrounding roads.
