Nairobi, Kenya – Fast-rising boxer Ferdinand Omondi, popularly known as Mbavu Destroyer, has broken his silence following a dramatic and controversial defeat to Portifas Odipo at the highly publicized Vurugu Fight Night.
The bout, staged at Kasarani Indoor Arena on April 4, drew widespread attention after trending across social media platforms. However, the fight ended in controversy after Mbavu was unable to continue following what he claims was an illegal blow.

The fight, originally scheduled for ten rounds, was stopped in the fourth round after Mbavu went down following a strike that appeared to land below the belt.

Reuben Ndolo and event organizer Oga Obinna later presented the winner’s belt to Majembe.

In a strongly worded reaction after the fight, Mbavu accused his opponent of crossing the line from professional boxing into foul play.
“Umenivunja njwang’a ni sawa… siku hizi boxing imekua kupigana njwang’a… this is not boxing.”
Translated, Mbavu alleged that the fight involved repeated low blows, arguing that the sport’s rules were not respected.
“This is not boxing,” he reiterated, expressing frustration with the officiating and the nature of the contest.
Majembe Dominates Early Rounds
Before the stoppage, Majembe had established clear dominance across the opening rounds, aggressively pressing forward while Mbavu adopted a more defensive approach.
Judges’ scorecards reflected that control:
- Round 1: Majembe 30 – Mbavu 27
- Round 2: Majembe 30 – Mbavu 27
- Round 3: Majembe 32 – Mbavu 27
The fourth round ended prematurely following the incident, with referees awarding the fight to Majembe.
