Police in Kilimani, Nairobi, have arrested a man accused of impersonating a military officer using a stolen identification card to illegally obtain subsidised goods.

The suspect, identified as Silah Ouma Abongo, was apprehended along KMC Landis Road on Friday and escorted to Kilimani Police Station, where he was officially booked.

Details of the Arrest

Authorities reported that Abongo was found in possession of a military ID card belonging to Edwin Chetty Atsango, an active service member. Investigations suggest that he had been using the stolen card to access subsidised items from the Armed Forces Canteen Organisation (AFCO) by falsely presenting himself as a serviceman.

The arrest was conducted by three military officers Sergeant Purity Chelagat, Sergeant Cliffton, and Senior Private Kevin Odero who became suspicious of Abongo’s activities and carried out an inspection. Police noted that the suspect appeared visibly intoxicated at the time of booking.

Ongoing Investigations

Kilimani police confirmed that Abongo remains in custody as further interrogations and investigations continue. Authorities plan to charge him with impersonation and fraud.

Officials have also urged the public and service institutions to remain vigilant against individuals exploiting military identification for personal gain.
