The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Nairobi has officially endorsed Winnie Odinga as a delegate from Kibra, a move party officials say will position her to take a seat on the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The endorsement came during a Nairobi ODM delegates’ meeting held at the JOOF and presided over by Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa, with Winnie Odinga in attendance.

“Tume endorse Winnie Odinga kama mwakilishi wetu na kama one of the deputy leaders wa nyadhifa ya juu,” Aladwa said, noting that the decision aligns with the party’s top leadership structure.

Aladwa explained that the move was aimed at ensuring Nairobi delegates present a united front ahead of the party’s upcoming meeting scheduled later this month.

“Tuko na NDC yetu on Friday 27th, na kama delegates lazima tukubaliane vile tutaenda kwa hiyo mkutano,” he added.

The Nairobi ODM leader highlighted that the seat had previously been held by Raila Odinga, and discussions on a successor had been ongoing for several weeks.

“Sisi kama Nairobi mwakilishi wadi yetu alikuwa Raila Odinga, na alitusaidia sana… kama watu wa Nairobi tumekuwa na vikao kwa miezi kama mbili tukisema kwamba tunataka kuwa na mwakilishi,” Aladwa said.

With the endorsement, Winnie Odinga will now represent Nairobi in the party’s NEC and central committee, formalizing her role in shaping ODM’s strategic decisions at the national level.

“Winnie atatuwakilisha kwenye NEC, region ya Nairobi na kwa central committee,” Aladwa confirmed.

The move comes amid growing calls within ODM for cohesion and stability, with Nairobi delegates emphasizing that bringing Winnie Odinga closer to the party leadership will help steady ODM, which has experienced political turbulence in recent months.
