The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially endorsed Senator Oburu Oginga as its new party leader, succeeding the late Raila Odinga.

The announcement was made on Monday, October 27, 2025, following a Central Committee meeting held at the party’s headquarters the first official communication since Raila’s passing.

According to the committee, chaired by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the decision to endorse Oburu was made to maintain party unity, stability, and continuity during what the party described as one of the most challenging moments in its 20-year history.

“The party remains strong and steadfast in all its obligations and will rise stronger from adversity. This being the first meeting of the committee since the passing of the Party Leader, the top organ resolved as follows: That we endorse Hon. Dr. Oburu Oginga as the new party leader,” read part of the statement issued after the meeting.

Sifuna urged ODM members, officials, and supporters across the country to fully support Oburu’s leadership as the party navigates this transition period.

“We urge the party rank and file to accord him all the necessary support and cooperation to enable him to guide the party through this difficult time,” the statement added.

The committee also paid glowing tribute to the late Raila Odinga, describing him as a visionary leader, liberator, and unifier whose influence transcended generations and national boundaries.

“In honour of his legacy as a unifier who brought together people from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, the party recommits itself to advancing the causes he championed,” the statement said.

ODM reaffirmed its dedication to upholding Raila’s vision of democracy, inclusivity, justice, and peace, promising to continue promoting the values that defined his decades-long political career.

“ODM shall remain on the path of embracing diversity and continue the struggle for equality, justice, and peace both at home and beyond our borders,” the statement concluded.
