ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has appealed to party leaders and members to remain united and resist divisions following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, October 27, 2025, during an ODM Central Committee press briefing, Sifuna emphasised that the Orange Democratic Movement must remain steadfast in advancing Raila’s vision and values. He cautioned members against engaging in power struggles or internal disputes over political succession, warning that such actions would undermine Raila’s legacy.
“We now call upon the leadership and membership of the party to rally behind the late leader’s dreams and desire for this beloved movement,” Sifuna stated.
The ODM Secretary General reminded leaders that many great political movements throughout history have faltered after losing their founders, urging them not to repeat that mistake.
“Let us resist the temptation to scatter in despair or to fight over his political inheritance, as leaders often do when giants fall,” he added.
Commitment to Raila’s Ideals
Sifuna reaffirmed the party’s commitment to preserving Raila’s legacy by maintaining unity, discipline, and focus. He said ODM will not tolerate internal wrangles or personal ambitions that could derail the movement’s mission.
“We commit here in unison, as we did during the funeral, that we will not be responsible for any break-up in the party or political turbulence that runs counter to Jakom’s dreams,” he said.
Sifuna praised Raila’s enduring contribution to Kenya’s democracy, describing ODM as more than just a political organisation but a covenant built on values of justice, equity, and democracy.
“Baba built this movement on the foundation of democracy and equity. ODM is not just a political party; it is a covenant,” Sifuna declared.
He pledged that ODM would continue pursuing Raila’s vision of a united and just Kenya, saying the movement would remain relentless in its mission.
“We will remain relentless until Canaan is yonder,” he concluded.
Sifuna’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the party over the future of ODM and who might carry forward Raila’s political mantle. His call for unity appeared aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and protecting the integrity of the movement that Raila Odinga dedicated his life to building.
