The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has suspended the morning sitting of Parliament in response to the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Invoking his authority under Standing Order Number One, Wetang’ula announced the adjournment and directed Members of Parliament to reconvene later in the day for an official statement on the matter.
“I will invoke my authority under Standing Order Number One, and I direct as follows: the sitting this morning is adjourned. We will have a meeting at 2:30 pm this afternoon, where the Speaker will give you important communication. For now, the House stands adjourned to 2:30 PM this afternoon,” Wetang’ula told MPs.
The announcement came shortly after news of Odinga’s passing spread across the country on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, prompting a somber mood within Parliament and across the nation.
