Ruai, Nairobi County – Police officers in Ruai have shot dead two armed suspects believed to have been terrorizing residents and carrying out a series of robberies in Nairobi and its outskirts.
According to Ruai Deputy County Intelligence Officer (DCIO) Henry Kinyua, the suspects had stolen a licensed firearm from an individual a week earlier, which they were reportedly using in their criminal activities.
Intelligence-Led Operation
Kinyua said police acted on intelligence provided by members of the public that the duo was planning a robbery in Ruai. When officers pursued them, the suspects opened fire, prompting police to respond.
During the operation, police recovered:
- The stolen pistol
- 13 rounds of ammunition
- Two mobile phones
- Five spent cartridges
Community Cooperation Praised
The DCIO urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement, stressing that community information is vital in enhancing local security.
“Community intelligence is crucial in helping us prevent crime and protect neighborhoods,” Kinyua said.
Residents React
Local residents praised the swift police action, noting that the recovered firearm, if left in criminal hands, could have continued to pose a serious threat to the safety of the community.
Conclusion
The Ruai operation underscores the importance of collaboration between the public and law enforcement in combating crime. With the recovery of the stolen firearm and the neutralization of the suspects, police say they remain committed to ensuring the safety of Nairobi’s neighborhoods.
