Police in Kisumu County have launched an intensive investigation following the gruesome murder of a 41-year-old man whose body was discovered beheaded in Muhoroni on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

The horrifying scene was first reported at around 6:40 a.m. when Wickliff Okoncho, a boda boda rider and security agent, notified authorities that a human head had been spotted in the middle of the road at Kona Mbaya along the Achego–Muhoroni stretch.

According to a police report filed at Koru Police Station under OB No. 02/28/10/2025, officers from Achego Patrol Base immediately rushed to the scene and found the severed head placed inside a paper bag and dumped on the road.

The shocking discovery quickly drew dozens of curious residents, prompting police to cordon off the area as they began processing the scene.

Shortly after, a second report emerged indicating that a headless body had been found a few meters from the victim’s rented house in Keiyo Village, Songor Sub-location, Tamu Location.

Victim Identified as Local Tractor Driver

Police later identified the victim as Patrick Okello Amemo, a tractor driver from Mawego Village in Homa Bay County. According to neighbours, Okello was a quiet man who had lived in the area for several years without any known conflicts.

“The body was discovered near his home, with both the head and genitals severed. Evidence suggests it was dumped shortly before dawn,” reads part of the police report.

Authorities Condemn the Brutal Killing

Confirming the incident, Muhoroni Sub-county OCPD Fredrick Ombaka described the killing as “disturbing and barbaric,” adding that detectives are pursuing leads that may help identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

“It is a shocking and brutal murder. We have recovered both the head and the body, and our officers are actively following crucial leads to determine what transpired,” Ombaka said.

The remains were later transferred to Odhoo Morgue for preservation and post-mortem examination.

Community Demands Justice and Better Security

Residents of Keiyo Village have expressed fear and outrage over the murder, calling for enhanced police patrols and faster investigations. They claim insecurity in the area has been escalating, with several incidents of theft and nighttime violence reported in recent weeks.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
