President William Ruto has intensified his criticism of opposition leaders, accusing them of lacking clear ideas and relying on political slogans and smear campaigns rather than offering practical development solutions for Kenyans.
Speaking at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County during the Governor Fernandes Barasa Cup final, the President challenged the opposition to compete with him on the basis of performance and delivery, urging citizens not to be swayed by what he described as empty political rhetoric.
The event provided the latest platform for President Ruto to push back against the united opposition, whom he dismissed as unprepared for leadership due to what he termed a lack of a credible development track record and policy agenda.
“Every leader should come with their record. I am ready to present my record here in Kakamega,” President Ruto said. “I have told those leaders to stop empty talk and instead look for policies, plans, and a clear vision. Slogans alone are not enough.”

President Ruto also took aim at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, questioning his presidential ambitions and accusing him of failing to deliver tangible development even in his home region.
“He has not even developed the road to his own home. How long will it take him to plan development for Kakamega?” the President remarked.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa responded by assuring President Ruto of the county’s political support and commitment to working with the national government.
“I want to assure you that Kakamega is secure. You can focus on seeking support elsewhere here, you are well supported,” Governor Barasa said.
Development Promises for Kakamega
As part of his development agenda, President Ruto pledged to upgrade Bukhungu Stadium to a 25,000-seat capacity by the end of the year, including the installation of a canopy to shield spectators from adverse weather.
“Today we played in the rain, but by December this stadium will be complete and fully covered,” he said.
Governor Barasa echoed the commitment, saying the county government would partner with the national administration to deliver key infrastructure projects, including roads, housing, and sports facilities.
President Ruto’s remarks come amid heightened political activity, with both the government and opposition camps positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
