A police corporal has died, while a female bar owner remains in critical condition following a shooting incident at a local bar in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Wednesday night, January 1.

According to a police report filed at Kongoni Police Station, officers responded to the incident after it was reported by Corporal Bakari Juma, the officer in charge of Kachuma Police Post. Upon arrival, police found two individuals critically injured outside the establishment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Corporal Collins Kochei, who was attached to Tangi Tano Police Post under Munanda Police Station in Gilgil Sub-county, is alleged to have shot the bar owner, identified as Lucy Wanjiru Njoroge, a 34-year-old woman.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot injuries and was rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital by a good Samaritan, where she was admitted in serious condition and continues to receive treatment.

The police officer involved was also taken to the same hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities have not released full details surrounding the circumstances of his death, stating that the matter remains under investigation.

Senior officers from Kongoni Police Station and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office visited and processed the scene as part of ongoing inquiries. The body of the deceased officer was transferred to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Naivasha have launched a comprehensive investigation to establish the events leading up to the incident.
