President William Ruto has been honoured with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025, a distinction recognising his notable contribution to the progress and elevation of football in Kenya and across the African continent.
The award was presented on Wednesday night during the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco. Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, accepted the honour on the President’s behalf.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed praised the recognition, noting that the government’s sustained investment in sports particularly football positions Kenyan athletes to soon earn similar accolades.
Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni also received awards for their efforts in strengthening football governance and supporting major pan-African sporting initiatives. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe commended the three East African leaders for their strong commitment to advancing the sport.
The honour comes on the heels of regional sporting milestones. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda jointly hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), showcasing upgraded stadium facilities, improved logistics, and enhanced event management. Kenya is further preparing to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, marking another significant chapter in its football development agenda.
The ceremony also highlighted top performers in African football. Nigeria’s Super Falcons were crowned Women’s Team of the Year, with Chiamaka Nnadozie winning Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi earned the CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award, while Ghizlane Chebbak was named Women’s Player of the Year.
