Homa Bay County, Kenya – A primary school head teacher accused of killing a retired teacher and his wife in a land dispute has been arrested after surrendering to police in Rangwe.

Peter Angon’g, the head teacher of Onyege Comprehensive School in Kagan Ward, is accused of murdering Joseph Ooko Owuoth, a retired teacher, and his wife Pamela Akeyo Ooko on Sunday evening in Wii Kawiti village, Rangwe Sub-county.

Suspect Surrenders

Police reported that Angon’g initially went into hiding after allegedly collaborating with an accomplice to commit the crime, prompting a manhunt. However, he resurfaced on Tuesday and surrendered to police at Rangwe Police Station, accompanied by his lawyer.

Rangwe Sub-county Police Commander Magdalene Chebet confirmed that the suspect was arrested immediately upon presenting himself at the station.

Ongoing Investigations

Chebet added that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are preparing to take the suspect to court to seek orders allowing them to detain him for additional days as investigations continue.

The arrest has drawn attention to the escalating land disputes in the region, which have increasingly led to violent confrontations. Authorities say the case underscores the urgent need for peaceful resolution of land conflicts to prevent further tragedies.

Conclusion

As investigations proceed, the arrest of Peter Angon’g marks a critical step in seeking justice for the slain couple. The case will be closely watched as the community grapples with the impact of the killings and the broader issue of land-related disputes in Homa Bay County.
