Renowned radio presenter Ally Mwayongwa, popularly known as Shugaboy, has announced his resignation from the local radio station, bringing to a close a nine-year career that saw him rise to become one of the country’s top broadcasting talents.
Shugaboy hosted his final show on Friday, February 27, 2026, sharing the news with his loyal fans while expressing gratitude for their support throughout his career. Reflecting on his journey, he said,
“It has been a 9-year sweet ride here. I came in very virgin and am now leaving fully equipped. I came in as a boy, leaving as a mature man. I came in broke and I am now leaving as a multi-millionaire.”
He acknowledged the role of the station in shaping his personal and financial growth, noting the tangible assets he has acquired over the years.
“Three personal cars (Crown, Vitz, and Lexus), two 14-seater Matatus, one Tuktuk, five Bodas (bikes), a liquor joint (pub), two Swahili rental houses, a 5-bedroom house (under construction), four pieces of land, and three meals a day and rent for 9 straight years,” he listed.
Shugaboy clarified that his intentions were not to boast, but to express appreciation for the opportunities and experiences afforded to him during his time on air.
Looking ahead, the award-winning journalist revealed plans to venture into politics and agriculture.
“Thanks to everyone, we enjoyed the ride together. Ni Wengi can’t mention. About time to focus on agriculture and politics,” he said.
While stepping away from radio for now, Shugaboy did not completely close the door on a possible return. He stated that a non-negotiable pay of Ksh700,000 per month could entice him back to the airwaves.
Shugaboy’s departure marks the end of an era for the station, where his engaging shows and dynamic personality made him a household name. Fans and colleagues alike celebrated his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.
