The Senate Lands Committee has carried out a site inspection in Langata to assess whether ongoing construction is impacting operations at the nearby Wilson Airport.

Lawmakers are evaluating if the building project interferes with the airport’s emergency exit routes, potentially posing serious safety risks for flight operations.

The committee is also examining claims that the construction has blocked local sewerage and drainage systems, leading to flooding and structural cracks in nearby homes. Mohamed Faki, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Lands and Settlement, noted, “There are complaints that their drainage systems have been blocked, and their estate is facing serious problems of flooding and cracks in their houses because of the ongoing construction. They did get an order from the Environment Tribunal, but the order has been ignored.”

Nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana added, “The residents followed all due process with NEMA, yet the issues persist. I thank the Senate Committee for coming to witness the problems firsthand.”
