Authorities are investigating a tragic plane crash that occurred on Monday morning in Nyando, Tsimba Golini, Kwale County, where a passenger aircraft lost control and went down under unclear circumstances.

The private plane, which was en route from Diani to Kichwatembo in the Maasai Mara, is believed to have been carrying tourists at the time of the crash.

Kwale County Commissioner Steve Orinde confirmed the incident, saying initial details were still being verified.

“It is true, but I can’t speak more since we are still collecting information,” he told reporters.

Bad weather suspected

Early reports indicate that poor weather conditions may have contributed to the crash. Witnesses said the aircraft fell to the ground around 8:30 a.m., moments after taking off from Diani Airstrip.

Kwale County has experienced steady rainfall throughout the morning, which may have affected visibility and flight stability.

Emergency teams have been deployed to the site, and rescue and recovery operations are currently underway. The number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the Kenya Red Cross are expected to issue official statements as investigations continue.
