Heavy rainfall in Cundinamarca, Colombia, triggered widespread flooding early Friday morning, with rivers and streams, including the Río Botello, overflowing from around 04:00 local time. The floods affected neighbourhoods such as Los Manzanos and La Selva, where residents reported water levels exceeding one metre inside their homes.

Governor Jorge Emilio Rey confirmed at least 14 separate incidents across the department, prompting rapid deployment of emergency services. Firefighters, police, and the Red Cross worked throughout the day, using pumps and evacuation teams to move residents to safety.

More than 1,000 people were relocated to temporary shelters, where authorities provided food and basic supplies. The national weather agency, IDEAM, warned that additional rainfall in the coming days could increase the risk of landslides in nearby Andean areas, which are already vulnerable due to saturated ground.

Local officials are urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation instructions, emphasizing that the combination of heavy rains and unstable terrain continues to pose a significant threat to communities in the region.
